India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami delivered a sensational spell, breaking multiple records as India bowled out Bangladesh for 228 in their Champions Trophy 2025 clash. Shami returned figures of 5 for 53 in 10 overs, dismantling the Bangladesh batting lineup and making history in the process.
With this performance, Shami became the fastest bowler in the world to claim 200 ODI wickets in terms of balls bowled. The Indian speedster reached the milestone in just 5126 balls, surpassing Mitchell Starc’s record of 5240 balls. In terms of matches played, Shami became the joint second-fastest bowler in the world and the fastest Indian to achieve the feat.
Shami also etched his name in Indian cricket history by becoming the first-ever Indian bowler to take 60 wickets in ICC ODI tournaments, surpassing Zaheer Khan’s tally of 59 wickets. His fiery spell ensured that Bangladesh couldn’t capitalize on a solid start and were restricted to a modest total.
For Bangladesh, Towhid Hridoy stood tall with a brilliant century (100 runs), while Jaker Ali contributed 68 runs. Despite their resistance, Shami's brilliance, along with disciplined Indian bowling, kept Bangladesh in check.
With a target of 229 to chase, India will be confident, especially with their strong batting lineup led by Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will rely on their bowling attack to stage a comeback and defend their total.
